About Natural Beginnings
Natural Beginnings was founded in 2008 by Lucy McCoy; an environmental educator, biologist, Oregonian and mother. Ms. Lucy has two children of her own and currently keeps a small classroom, of up to 5 students (ages 2-5). This creates an intimate atmosphere and the perfect stepping stone from home to large child care center or kindergarten. Natural Beginnings is located on Scaponia Springs Farm in Scappoose. The children have plenty of opportunity to be outside; playing and exploring nature, as well as helping to care for the many pets (goats, chickens, turkeys, cat, dog, rabbit, bearded dragons, toad, fish, etc.). Life skills are a major focus - cooking, handiwork, manners, hygiene, dressing, etc. We also focus on Kindergarten readiness.
Natural Beginnings provides a safe environment protected from VOC's (volatile organic compounds), pesticides, herbicides, BPA, lead & mercury. These environmental factors have been shown to increase disabilities in young children. Children are protected from these factors by providing natural, local & organic whole foods and by using recycled, natural & organic products. Scaponia Springs Farm is a Certified Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation.
The children are exposed to the natural world and world cultures through hands-on activities, songs, games, crafts, stories and more.
NB is deemed Eco-Healthy by the Oregon Environmental Council
